Integrated Regional Water Management Plan (IRWMP)
The Integrated
Regional Water Management (IRWM) Grant Program, funded
by Proposition 50, Chapter 8, provides about $380
million for competitive grants for projects to protect
communities from drought, protect and improve water
quality, and improve local water security by reducing
dependence on imported water. Funding for the IRWM
Program is split between the Department of Water Resources
and the State Water Resources Control Board.
Greater Los Angeles
County regions are collaborating to develop an Integrated
Regional Water Management Plan (IRWMP) that focuses
on water resource management while creating a platform
for future funding. This map shows the 5 regions which
span from Ventura County to Orange County, including
portions of both, and from the coastline to the San
Gabriel Mountains - an area representing approximately
nine million people and over 2,200 square miles.
This IRWMP is being funded by Proposition 50, Chapter
8 grants administered by the State Department of Water
Resources, totaling $1.5 million, and generous contributions
from local governments and agencies. More information
is available at the website for the Greater Los Angeles
Region IRWMP, http://lawaterplan.org/.
The Step 1 Implementation
Grant proposal for the San Gabriel and Lower Los Angeles
Rivers Watershed Region was submitted to the State
on July 14, 2005 by the Watershed Conservation Authority*
on behalf of the Regional Water Management Group for
the San Gabriel and Lower Los Angeles Rivers Watershed.
This IRWMP integrates diverse water management strategies
from a variety of existing plans. It can be found
at http://lawaterplan.org/
by clicking on "Documents" in the menubar,
then on "Planning Grant Application."

a joint powers entity of the Rivers and Mountains
Conservancy (RMC) and the Los Angeles County Flood
Control District (LADPW).
